As we venture into the summer season, flowers are blooming in Bala Cynwyd and all across the world! After meeting new faces in the Super Loa Showroom over the past few months, we were surprised to learn that many don't know what the term 'flower' refers to so we decided to share a goodie but quickie!
'Flower’ refers to the smokeable, trichome-enriched part of a cannabis plant. It's the most popular form of cannabis consumption due to it’s versatility and methods of use; it can be:
Our Flower products are 100% organic, non-GMO, and 3rd Party Lab Tested for excellent quality. The FLOWER includes the leaves, the cola, cannabinoids, the flower (of course), trichomes and terpenes.
LEAVES
Cannabis plants come in two types: Indica and Sativa. Hybrids are also available. The funny way to remember how people remember how they impact our physiology is: "Indica puts you 'in-da-couch!"; it is known to produce physically sedating effects to some (but not all) users. Sativa is known for uplifting cerebral effects that pair well with physical activity, social events and creative projects. Hybrid (mixed) strains are thought to provide a mix of each of these effects.
Research is showing that the chemical compounds in the strain (the cannabinoids and terpenes) determine the effects produce, not whether the strain is Indica or Sativa. Both were introduced in the 18th century.
THE COLA
A 'cola; is a botanical term that describes the flowering area of the female cannabis plant. It has different structures than the male plant (duh, right?) and the male plants do not produce flower. A cluster of blossoming buds or flowers is a cola. It's kind of like a bouquet of flowers in cannabis language is a cola!
CANNABINOIDS
Cannabis includes many cannabinoids such as CBN, CBC, CBD, and THC. The 2 major cannabinoids that affect the body are CBD and THC. They interact with specific receptors in the nervous systems, mainly receptors CB1 and CB2.
THE FLOWER
The flower contains all of the cannabinoids in the cannabis plant (so you don't need to use the stems!). Most commonly, the flower is ground up and smoked but there are other uses as well.
TRICHOMES
Have you ever seen crystals on the bud? These are trichomes and they are a rich source of THC and also act as a visual indicator of how strong the cannabis will be. Different strains produce different color and size trichomes. These visual indicators also communicate the maturity level of a plant and tell harvesters when "it's time"
TERPENES
Have you ever walked by and caught a whiff "of something" and knew exactly what it was? You smelled terpenes!! These organic aromas are found in the oils of flowering plants. Terpenes:
We hope you have a better understanding of the cannabis plant, it's properties and anatomy. In the meantime, stay well and stop by!
